Think of Your Competition In a Different Way
In my last post I talked about Event Marketing which generated a lot of discussion. One great discussion I had was with Ayn Whytmere of Found Well Farm and how she utilizes events to generate customers.
But, during our discussion Ayn discussed something I wanted to share with you with her permission. Ayn thinks of her competition in a different way than most business owners. Ayn views them as an opportunity to serve an underserved market. You see, Ayn offers native plants to avid gardeners and homeowners directly from her Native Plant Nursery in Pembroke, New Hampshire. How does this compare with her competition? Much of her competition offers native plants through wholesale avenues, which makes it difficult for the avid gardener and homeowner to work directly with the grower.
Since, direct from the grower is important to her customers she creates great customer value. When you talk to Ayn about native plants she will kick into high gear and will share with you all she knows and her passion for keeping it "local" with plantings. This excites her customers and she is able to build a strong relationship with them. She is serving the underserved.
If you want to have some fun this weekend and talk to Ayn she will be at the Garden Harvest Days-History in Bloom at Strawbery Banke in Portsmouth.
Thanks to Jim for commenting on the last post and all of you who contacted me via email and phone

Thanks for the comment and I agree it is a good example. Ayn is doing a great job with her market and customers that I had to share it with others. Blogs are a great way to get us all talking and sharing ideas. It is a global tool that can bring local efforts together in one format.
