If it is Company Policy is this Good Customer Service?
Yesterday, I filled my vehicle with gas at the Irving Retail Store that I patronize a few miles down the road from my house. The total came to just under $35 and I attempted to pay in cash using $100 bill. When I gave the cashier the $100 bill he asked if I had any smaller bills.
I hesitated, searched my wallet, then handed him two $20 bills. Then walked away annoyed.
That evening at the Common Man Company Store I made a purchase totaling under $14 handing the cashier the same $100 bill that I tried to hand to the Irving Retail Store cashier that morning. The cashier gladly accepted the bill. When I told her my "Irving" story she was shocked and could not understand why they would not accept it. She stated that even if I were the first customer of the day she would accept the $100 bill. I am not a frequent patron of this store as it is about one and a half hours from my home.
I have written to Irving Oil and received the following acknowledgement of my email from a Jinelle Thompson stating:
"Thank you for visiting our website. I have forwarded your email to the Area Manager to address."
Why would they not accept my $100 bill? If it is a company policy is this good customer service?
