A Dream or A Goal?
When you run a business you work with dreams and goals all the time. When you dream (and I'm speaking of day dreams here) you are experiencing thoughts, images and emotions. Your conscious daydreams help keep you creative and inspired. This creativity and inspiration is emotionally charged bringing serenity or excitement. The dreams are the basis of your visions and goals.
To move your dream to a goal start taking steps by becoming involved in activities, daily tasks or outsourcing some of your business responsibilities that relate to your dream. Next, as you move into the goal stage establish the SMART System (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Timed) to your goal. Here is an excellent post by Jill Koening on her goal setting experience in relation to the SMART system.
When you are on the track towards your goal you will ultimately hit some hurdles. When this occurs reflect back onto your dream and the emotional inspiration that you felt. Since goals are measurable and tangible they tend to separate you from the emotions that motivated you. For some goals can bring up fears of failure or anxiety. In either case, reflecting back will re-energize and refocus you.
What business dreams will you turn into goals?
